Since declaring a state of emergency in March, the Province of Ontario has ordered mandatory shutdowns of physical locations for non-essential businesses. While social isolation policies are necessary, these sudden public health measures have created a sense of uncertainty within the business community.
Apart from big-box retail chains, many small and medium sized businesses like restaurants, gyms, personal health service providers and service-sector office spaces have been forced to shut down. With an understanding of how landlords and tenants can potentially work together during these coming months, our aim is to provide both sides of the commercial lease with information to hopefully cooperate and move towards surviving the COVID crisis.
